The Last Queen - Book One by G. Lawrence.

I cannot claim to be an Egyptologist, but can say that after being expertly guided around temples on a week's Nile cruise, I was taught about the different ages of Egypt, the Gods, and the Pharaohs. So it was that chapter one of Lawrence's book, "The Beggining," had me hooked and wanting more. Much more.

" ... places of the Ptolomies and the resting places of the ancient kings were visited by travellers to our lands, who marvelled at these wondrous feats constructed long ago, when their own people were still gathering berries and nuts to survive," seemed more than relevant words, even today.

The first person narrative of following chapters brought, for me, the story alive, making it personal, telling me the reader what happened on a one to one basis, and I was continually made aware that the level of research that went into this book was phenomenal.

Descendants Of The Gods. Book Two in the series.

In Descendants Of The Gods by G. A. Lawrence, ancient texts provide the bones of the story of Cleopatra's mourning for her father, while keeping her young brother from ruling in her stead.

But, it's Lawrence's imagination that adds flesh to those bones, and her writing style that, through veins and arteries, adds life to that flesh.

Take this quote from Cleopatra, for example ;-

"I nodded, feeling the lie pass through my blood as though it were the waters of the Nile creeping over Egypt in the flood."
